If you are concerned about a child’s safety:
1. A Concern Arises
This may be:
- A disclosure from a child
- Signs of physical, emotional or sexual abuse
- Neglect
- Inappropriate adult behaviour
- Online safety concerns
- Exploitation concerns
2. Respond Immediately
- Stay calm
- Listen carefully
- Do no ask leading questions
- Do not promise confidentiality
- Reassure the child they have done the right thing
3. Record the Concern
Write down:
- Date and time
- What was said (as close to exact words as possible)
- What you observed
- Your name and signature
Do not include opinion – facts only.
4. Report Immediately
Report to:
Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL):
Esther Morgan – Director
If unavailable, report to:
Tina O’Brien – Director
If a child is in immediate danger – contact Police or Children’s Services immediately.
5. DSL Action
The DSL will:
- Review the concern
- Decide on appropriate action
- Make referral to Children’s Services where necessary
- Record and store documentation securely
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Never assume someone else will report it.
